Narendra Modi Videos at Vikas Rally

Narendra Modi Speech Video at Vikas Rally

New Delhi: Narendra Modi today tore into the Congress leadership and the UPA government as he is wont to do, but his sharpest words were reserved for the Prime Minister.

"I wonder if he will meet the Pakistan PM confidently today...I wonder if the PM will be able to ask him when Pakistan will stop aiding terrorism...I  wonder if the PM will be able to question Nawaz Sharif on the Indian soldiers who are brutally killed," Mr Modi, who was recently named the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, said at a massive rally in election-bound Delhi today.

The Prime Minister is in the US where he will meet Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today. The BJP has opposed that meeting.

Mr Modi also made a scathing attack on Congress number 2 Rahul Gandhi, who he said had undermined the authority of the Prime Minister, referring to the latter's criticism of an ordinance to protect convicted lawmakers that the government has pushed.

"The pride of the Prime Minister has been brought down by his own party. The Congress' Vice President has committed the sin of disrespecting the Prime Minister," Mr Modi said.

He asked the people to decide if the nation would be run based on the Constitution or then the whims of the "shahzada" or prince, referring to Mr Gandhi.

He also asked the people to bring the "dream team" of the BJP to power in 2014, not "this dirty team," accusing the Congress-led UPA of being "deeply entrenched in corruption."

The BJP pulled out all stops to make the Modi show today a huge affair. On the massive stage, 80 feet by 40 feet, Mr Modi in a white kurta pyjama, was flanked by leaders like Nitin Gadkari and Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel.

The party had invited envoys of about 80 countries in an effort to project what the party says is the Gujarat Chief Minister's global appeal and acceptability, after years of being boycotted by many countries over the 2002 communal riots in his state. About 15 of them attended.

The BJP has its hopes pinned on the Narendra Modi factor to tilt the November elections in Delhi its favour. It is widely seen as tied in a neck and neck race with the Congress in the national capital this time. The party was trounced by the Congress's Sheila Dikshit in the last three elections in Delhi.

Narendra Modi mocked Mrs Dikshit, saying the Delhi Chief Minister was an expert in "cutting ribbons" and passing the buck. (Read: Narendra Modi says Sheila Dikshit has no work)

About 100 giant LED screens were installed all over Delhi to broadcast Mr Modi's speech live.

SUMMARY OF THE SPEECH:

  1. Delhi is burdened by governments. Here, there are governments within governments - one of the mother, one of the son.
  2. Today UPA in Delhi is a coalition government which is close but doesn't work together.
  3. Other than ribbon cutting and blame game, the Delhi Chief Minister has nothing much to do. During the gang-rape incident, she said, being a mother I advise girls to return home early. Is she not responsible? Does she not have duties towards this? Delhi Chief Ministers are not accountable for what they do neither are they responsible. All they do is play the blame game.
  4. The Commonwealth Games scam has robbed India of its sportsman spirit.
  5. Supreme Court keeps summoning Indian government on corruption cases but the Delhi politicians, Congress and its allies are addicted like an alcoholic.
  6. This UPA govt is immersed in Gandhi-bhakti. This Gandhi-bhakti refers to currency notes. This government is so corrupt that you can't count the money, you have to weigh it.
  7. More than 60 years after Independence, smaller countries are doing better than us. We are regressing instead of progressing. People don't have electricity in this capital city. Even the Prime Minister's house has generators.
  8. The PM was prostrating himself in front of Obama - marketing India's poverty. He should have stood tall and said we are a young country - what a shame. This poverty you speak of Mr PM, is it a state of mind? That is the way the shahzada (prince) defined it.
  9. How dare Nawaz Sharif call India's Prime Minister a village woman? India is a country of 1.2 billion people, we will never tolerate this. Where does Nawaz Sharif get such audacity? The PM has no respect within his party, how will he have respect in the world? His own party calls him 'nonsense'; Congress ke vice president ne PM ki pagdi uchal di hai.
  10. I want to ask the UPA government: PM declared that he wanted to work under the shahzada. But I want to ask UPA senior leaders if they want to work in tandem with the Constitution or the shahzada? The country needs a dream team in 2014, not this dirty team.

Narendra Modi remembering Shaheed Bhagat Singh

Narendra Modi paying tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birthday

Message from Shri Narendra Modi:
Tributes to the legendary Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary. His true devotion towards our Motherland will remain an inspiration for generations to come.

About Bhagat Singh:
Bhagat Singh
28 September 1907
23 March 1931
He was an Indian socialist considered to be one of the most influential revolutionaries of the Indian independence movement. He is often referred to as "Shaheed Bhagat Singh", the word "Shaheed" meaning "martyr" in a number of Indian languages. Born into a Sikh family which had earlier been involved in revolutionary activities against the British Raj, as a teenager Singh studied European revolutionary movements and was attracted to anarchist and Marxist ideologies. He became involved in numerous revolutionary organisations, and quickly rose through the ranks of the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) to become one of its main leaders, eventually changing its name to the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) in 1928.

Seeking revenge for the death of Lala Lajpat Rai at the hands of the police, Singh was involved in the murder of British police officer John Saunders. He eluded efforts by the police to capture him. Together with Batukeshwar Dutt, he undertook a successful effort to throw two bombs and leaflets inside the Central Legislative Assembly while shouting slogans of revolution. Subsequently they volunteered to surrender and be arrested. Held on this charge, he gained widespread national support when he underwent a 116 day fast in jail, demanding equal rights for British and Indian political prisoners. During this time, sufficient evidence was brought against him for a conviction in the Saunders case, after trial by a Special Tribunal and appeal at the Privy Council in England. He was convicted and subsequently hanged for his participation in the murder, aged 23. His legacy prompted youth in India to begin fighting for Indian independence and he continues to be a youth idol in modern India, as well as the inspiration for several films. He is commemorated with a large bronze statue in the Parliament of India, as well as a range of other memorials.

Right to Reject: A great step towards future electoral reforms to make our democracy vibrant and meaningful

Dear Friends,
This morning the Honourable Supreme Court directed the Election Commission to include negative voting by allowing the voters to reject all the candidates in an election.

I wholeheartedly welcome this. I am sure it will have a long lasting impact on our polity and will be a great step in the direction of further electoral reforms that can make our democracy even more vibrant and participative.

Friends, for a very long time I have called for a provision for a right to reject in elections. Without it, there was something lacking in the system. Right now, if there are ten candidates contesting from a seat, we are compelling the voters to choose from those ten candidates. This judgment will empower the voters to express their anger and reject all of them. The voters can give a message that we do not like the candidate or the candidates’ party or the party policies. This will give out a very strong message to political parties- parties will be forced to think why is it that people are not accepting them. It will make parties more responsible.

Many friends in some political parties are skeptical of having a Right to Reject in forthcoming elections. However, I am not surprised. We introduced a bill on compulsory voting, which even included the Right to Reject but Congress Party opposed it tooth and nail. The bill was passed twice, in 2008 and in 2009 but it was then withheld by the Honourable Governor.

Compulsory voting too, has several advantages that can make our democracy stronger. It will even mitigate fears about elections becoming display of money power. Many citizens are disturbed by the large amounts of money being spent on elections. However, by bringing compulsory voting, mindless and extravagant expenditure on elections will not happen as the voter will anyway have to come to the polling booth and cast his or her franchise.

It is natural for many of you to ask- do things like Right to Reject and Compulsory votingviolate our Right to Expression? No, I would say it is adding completeness in the opportunity for expression. Right now, you are getting only half the right of expression- that of selecting the person or party. In future, you will get a complete right of expression- of even rejecting the candidates.

And it is not that something is being snatched from the voters. If compulsory schooling for children is advocated, can you say that we are denying a child his or her childhood?
Once someone asked Mahatma Gandhi what are the fundamental rights of the people? Gandhi ji said that it is not about the fundamental right but the fundamental duties of the people. When we do our duties properly, the rights will be automatically safeguarded and if we do our duties properly, our democracy will be safeguarded.

But friends, while it is good to talk about Right to Reject and Compulsory Voting, this debate will be meaningless if you are not registered as voters!
I am told that a large number of youngsters who are 18 to 24 years old are not registered as voters. There is nothing more unfortunate than this. The Election Commission has started a special drive across all states for enlisting voters and I urge all of you to make use of the drive and get registered as voters. It is equally true that many of our NRI friends who retain their India passports do not know that they can vote in elections. Thus, I even urge my NRI friends to check the Election Commission website and get registered as voters.
Democracy can only be strengthened by all of us! As voters, we are the ‘Bhagya Vidhatas’ of our nation. What the Supreme Court said today is a wonderful step but it is now for us to come together, put it into practice and strengthen our democracy so that our nation can shine in the years to come!

On the morning of Sunday 22nd September 2013 Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Indian diaspora during the Annual National Convention of the USA Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP) via videoconference. Shri Narendra Modi called for the uprooting of the Central Government and called for working towards a progressive BJP Government in 2014. He affirmed that these elections are not about any person or post but they are about dreams of the people, to wipe the tears of the poor and to work for the welfare of our farmers, the marginalized and tribal communities. Shri Modi also added that while individuals come and go, it is the Nation that is eternal and said that everybody must work for the nation.

Shri Narendra Modi began his speech by unequivocally condemning the unfortunate attack at a mall in Nairobi where several people including Indians lost their lives. He said that there is no question of having different yardsticks in the case of terrorism and said that it is wrong for some nations to be selective on this. Shri Modi called for spreading Mahatma Gandhi’s message of peace and humanity and he expressed confidence that the Kenyan Government will uproot the elements who committed this crime.

Referring to the Lok Sabha Elections of 2014 Shri Modi said, “2014 is not being fought by any leader or any party but it is being fought by the people for their rights and dreams. All this debate surrounding ‘he is fighting’ ‘he is fighting’ is wrong! This election will be about the manifesto of the people who want peace and prosperity not the manifesto of parties.” Drawing a comparison to the historic elections of 1977 Shri Modi avowed, “ The elections after the Emergency were not fought by leaders of parties. Neither did papers ad pundits influence them. It was the people’s voice. Like 1977, 2014 will be the voice of the people.”

                                 SHRI NARENDRA MODI

This blog will be updated frequently with the events, news and any updates of Narendra Modi

Narendra Damodardas Modi.
Born 17 September 1950
Shri Narendra Modi, the man endeared as a visionary & an untiring, selfless worker who has made Gujarat the cynosure of all eyes across the world.
He is the 14th and current Chief Minister of Gujarat, a state in western India, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He is the prime ministerial candidate of the BJP and the centre-right National Democratic Alliance for the upcoming 2014 Indian general elections.

Modi was a key strategist for the BJP in the successful 1995 and 1998 Gujarat state election campaigns. He first became chief minister of Gujarat in October 2001, being promoted to the office upon the resignation of his predecessor, Keshubhai Patel, following the defeat of BJP in by-elections. In July 2007, he became the longest-serving Chief Minister in Gujarat's history when he had been in power for 2,063 days continuously. He is currently into his fourth consecutive term as Chief Minister.

Modi is a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and is described as a Hindu nationalist by media, scholars and himself. He is a controversial figure both within India and internationally. He has  been praised for his economic policies which are credited with creating the environment for the high economic growth in Gujarat.

Life and Education

Modi was born on 17 September 1950 to a family of grocers in Vadnagar in Mehsana district of what was then Bombay State (present-day Gujarat), India. He was the third of six children born to Damodardas Mulchand Modi and his wife, Heeraben. While a teenager, Modi ran a tea stall with his brother around a bus terminus. He completed his schooling in Vadnagar, where a teacher described him as being an average student but a keen debater.

He began work in the staff canteen of Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), where he stayed till he became a full–time pracharak (propagator) of the RSS. After Modi had received some RSS training in Nagpur, which was a prerequisite for taking up an official position in the Sangh Parivar, he was given charge of Sangh's student wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), in Gujarat. Modi organised agitations and covert distribution of Sangh's pamphlets during the Emergency. During his years in the RSS, Modi came in touch with Vasant Gajendragadkar and Nathalal Jaghda, leaders of the Jan Sangh, who later founded the BJP's Gujarat state unit. Modi remained a pracharak in the RSS while he completed his Master's degree in political science from Gujarat University.

Political career

The RSS seconded Modi to the BJP in 1987 while Shankarsingh Vaghela and Keshubhai Patel were the established names in the BJP, Modi rose to prominence after organising Murli Manohar Joshi's Ekta yatra (journey for unity). His electoral strategy was central to BJP's victory in the 1995 state elections.

Modi became the General Secretary of the BJP and was transferred to New Delhi where he was assigned responsibility for the party's activities in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Vaghela, who had threatened to break away from BJP in 1995, defected from the BJP after he lost the 1996 Lok Sabha elections. In 1998, Modi was promoted to the post of National Secretary of the BJP. While selecting candidates for the 1998 state elections in Gujarat, Modi sidelined people who were loyal to Vaghela and rewarded those who favoured Patel, thus ending factional divisions within the party. His strategies were key to winning those elections.
